If You Must Cancel Your Registration

If you must cancel a camp registration, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to another family.  The $50 deposit for each session is non-refundable.  PVAS membership fees are also not refunded.  If a session must be cancelled, a full refund is given.

What is the Camp Day Like?

Camp sessions are held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Groups of 8-10 campers of similar age are led by experienced staff to ensure safety and individual attention.   Much of each day is spent hiking in the woods.  Each unit finds a special place in the woods to build a fort from natural materials.    Camp activities include hiking, games, crafts, and other activities that focus on the week's theme.

At Yankauer Nature Preserve, a central, open air pavilion provides shade and protection from storms.  There are also composting toilets and running water.  The preserve is about 104 acres of woods.

At Cool Spring Preserve, there is a building with flush toilets and running water, a barn that will be used for some activities, wooded and open areas, and Bullskin Run. There are flush toilets and running water.  The preserve is about 13 acres.

Camp T-Shirts

If your camper wishes a camp t-shirt, they are available to purchase online when you register for $10.  They are available on the first day of camp.  Shirt orders must be received by May 15 to guarantee they are available.  We generally use 100% cotton shirts that have minimal shrinkage.  They are available in both youth and adult sizes. Sizes are generally true to size.

Youth X-Small: 2-4     Youth Small: 6-8     Youth Medium:  10-12     Youth Large:  14-16

Adult Small (34-36)   Adult Medium (38-40)      Adult Large (42-44)       Adult XL (46-48)

What to Bring to Camp

Most campers bring everything in a day pack.  Make sure your name is on everything!
  • Old clothes  -- campers will get dirty!  Most campers wear t-shirts and shorts.
  • Refillable water bottle!
  • Bug spray/lotion.  Ticks are very common at all sites, so this is highly recommended.  (Those that use DEET are most effective.  DEET is not recommended for infants or toddlers.)  Please be aware that mosquitoes and ticks are present at both nature preserves, so bug spray is important at all times.
  • Sunscreen.   (The lotion kind that is rubbed on is most effective.)
  • A Morning Snack, Lunch, Drink (non-caffeinated)
  • Rain jacket or poncho if rain is forecast.  Our programs go on rain or shine!
  • Hiking or sturdy shoes (closed toes are best)
  • Hats or ball caps can help.
  • Long pants will protect knees, but it is hot at camp, so lightweight ones are preferred.
  • Please DO NOT bring:
iPods, MP3 players, etc, or any electronics/electronic games, Card games (such as Magic, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.), Cell Phones (we have a cell phone for emergencies), Pocket knives, Anything valuable that you do not want to risk being lost or damaged.
