Berkeley Springs Fall Birding Festival

Birding Festival at Sleepy Creek        Birding Festival at Sleepy Creek, children's activity

Since 2009, PVAS has sponsored a Fall Birding Festival in Berkeley Springs. Held over a weekend during September, it is timed to coincide with the annual fall bird migration. It is the only fall birding festival being held in West Virginia.

The Berkeley Springs Birding Festival is intended for beginning and intermediate birders. It includes lectures, bird walks, and a workshop for beginning birders. Families and children are welcome. Featured presenters have included Wil Hershberger, one of West Virginia's leading naturalists and birding experts; Dr. Scott Shalaway, whose weekly nature column appears in the Pittsburg Post-Gazette and other newspapers in the region; Northern Virginia author and raptor expert Liam McGranaghan; and Marcy Heacker, a forensic ornithologist with the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
