Berkeley Springs Fall Birding Festival

Birding Festival at Sleepy Creek        Birding Festival at Sleepy Creek, children's activity

Since 2009, PVAS has sponsored a Fall Birding Festival in Berkeley Springs. Often held over a weekend during September, it has been timed to coincide with the annual fall bird migration. Although, it will not be held in 2014, we hope for its return next year.

In past years, the Berkeley Springs Birding Festival has been intended for beginning and intermediate birders. It has included lectures, bird walks, and a workshop for beginning birders. Families and children are welcome. Past presenters have included Wil Hershberger, one of West Virginia's leading naturalists and birding experts; Dr. Scott Shalaway, whose weekly nature column appears in the Pittsburg Post-Gazette and other newspapers in the region; Northern Virginia author and raptor expert Liam McGranaghan; and Marcy Heacker, a forensic ornithologist with the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
