Birding Festival
Since 2009, PVAS has often sponsored a Fall Birding Festival in Berkeley Springs. Held over a weekend during September, it was timed to coincide with the annual fall bird migration. Although it will not be held in 2014, we hope for its return next year.
Birding Trips
PVAS leads many birding trips each year, from local bird walks to trips farther afield like Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and Delaware Bay. Check the calendar for upcoming trips.  Some birding adventures, such as those to Altona Marsh, require a special waiver which you can find here.
Potomac Valley Birding Trail
We are currently creating downloadable trail maps with the top birding spots in the PVAS area. Check back later for more information.
Birder’s Blog
Check out local birders’ trip reports, bird feeder tips, and bird-related issues on our Birders Blog.

Birding Education

Birding 101 Birding 101 is a course tailored for beginning birders that utilizes classroom sessions and field trips to teach everything from bird identification to field etiquette to birding techniques and resources. The course is taught by local birding experts using an impressive collection of images and recordings captured by the instructors. The course takes place over four weeks in the spring: four evenings (one/week) from 7-9 pm, with field trips on corresponding Saturday mornings, usually 7 am-12. For more information, please contact Krista Hawley at or 703-303-1026. (See “Birding 101” for registration and additional information about the course.)

Master Birding Course This course is designed for intermediate birders who want to hone their skills. The course is currently being designed, and we hope to launch this program in the near future.
