What: Spring Bird Walk

Where: Stauffer's Marsh Nature Preserve, Berkeley County

When: Sunday, March 15, 2015

Time: 8:00 a.m.

Cost: free

Trip Leader: Steve Hartman

Stauffer's Marsh is a beautiful place to enjoy some spring birding! Join Steve Hartman as he explores Stuaffer's Marsh on Sunday, March 15.

The event is free and anyone with an interest is welcome, regardless of their birding skills.

For planning purposes, preregistration is strongly encouraged.

Participants will meet in the parking area at the north end of the Marsh at 8:00 a.m.

The Preserve is located in Back Creek Valley, one-half mile south of Shanghai, on the east side of Back Creek Valley Road (County Route 7).

The preserve is only 46 acres in size, so the distances to be walked are not great. However, the terrain will include wet meadows and marshlands, as well as dry areas, so waterproof footwear is strongly recommended.
Please wear gear that will allow you to stand comfortably in one area for small amounts of time as you look for and observe birds.

The trip will not be canceled unless there is greater than 8 inches of snow on the ground - so come prepared to walk on snowy/wet trails.

If the weather is cooperating and we have had some warm days, we hope to see some migrating waterbirds that are passing through.

Participants should dress appropriately for the prevailing weather and bring water.

Ticks can be an issue at the preserve year-round, so tick repellent is also recommended if air temperatures are significantly above freezing.

Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them.
