Join Jim Farley for a bird walk at Shannondale Springs Wildlife Management Area on Wednesday, November 11 at 7:30 in the morning.

Shannondale Springs WMA is located on the east bank of the Shenandoah River in Jefferson County, about 4 miles east of Charles Town. 

There is no fee and anyone with an interest is welcome to come along, regardless of their birding skills. Children are welcome.

Registration is not required, however is strongly encouraged.

Participants should plan to meet at 7:30 a.m. at the parking lot by the WMA boat launch site off Mission Road.

The 1,361 acre Shannondale Springs property is managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.  It includes a mixture of forest, brush land and open fields covering rolling hills. The trip will involved walking about 3 miles over moderately even ground. 

Possible species to be sighted include Bald Eagles, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks, vultures, waterfowl and wood peckers. 

Participants should bring water and dress appropriately for the prevailing weather conditions. Binoculars will be provided for those who do not have their own.

The walk may be cancelled in the event of severe weather.
