Join Doug Pifer, local naturalist, on a Nature Walk at Yankauer Preserve.

Doug is a writer, artist and life-long naturalist whose illustrated column "As The Crow Flies" appears in several Virginia and West Virginia newspapers

This Nature Walk is sure to offer something for every naturalist and beginner naturalist; advanced and beginner/families alike.

Walking through Yankauer's trails is a journey through time, as the preserve showcases young cedar-dominate forests to a more mature, mixed stand of native hardwood trees containing over 51 species of trees and shrubs. Visitors will discover a variety of native fern species, stunning paw-paw forests, native wildflowers blanketing the ground and a bounty of songbirds overhead. Yankauer has spectacular views of the Potomac River and is also a great place for encountering reptiles.

A list of birds and plants that have been recorded at Yankauer can be found on our website: http://potomacaudubon.org/yankauer

This event is free and everyone is welcome, however pre-registration is requested.

The trails at Yankauer are primitive, so wear sturdy walking shoes. Please leave pets at home.  And thank you for leaving the wildflowers for all to enjoy!
