Join the Monarch Alliance, a program of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society, as they partner with NCTC in their first annual butterfly count at the Training Center.

On Saturday, July 22, participants will walk the campus and trails of NCTC searching for and counting butterflies.

This event at the National Conservation Training Center requires registration. Please bring your photo ID and be prepared to stop at the security station upon entry to NCTC.

Participants will meet on the steps of the front Entry building. If you need help with directions, please ask at the security station and they will help direct you.

Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy walking shoes and bring drinking water. Sunscreen and insect repellent is strongly recommended.

As butterflies do not fly in the rain and heavy overcast can keep them down, participants should check the PVAS website for postponements if bad weather is forecast.  If the count is postponed, a notice will be placed on the website by 9 p.m. on the day before the count.

If the count is postponed, we will try to reschedule.

If you have questions, please contact Sandy Sagalkin at or 240-291-6465.
