Interested in Purple Martins? Not sure where to begin? We have answers!

Please join Purple Martin enthusiast Chip Hussion for this workshop on the basics of starting and maintaining a successful Purple Martin Colony. Learn about the plight of the Purple Martin and how you can help secure the future of this fascinating bird.

Chip will review his own journey from a novice enthusiast to a confident care-taker of large colonies. He will incorporate the PMCA website (Purple Martin Conservation Association, as a wealth of information for anyone wanting to begin their own journey. He looks forward to connecting with individuals to help aid in choosing the correct location at your property, identifying appropriate housing and assisting with ongoing questions or concerns.  He is hoping to work with adults and families alike as they pursue this rewarding hobby.

As a child, Mr. Hussion spent much time on or in Lake Erie where there were purple martin houses in the yards of several lakefront homes. All these years later, he remembers hearing the stories of the plight of and survival needs of the purple martins. Carrying those memories forward, he has had purple martin housing up in his yard since 1999, with the first 2-3 years unsuccessful. Since 2003, after putting up new housing, his spring/summers are full of enjoyable activity & chatter!!

Registration for this event is required. Children are welcomed when accompanied by an adult.

All fees are nonrefundable.  PVAS reserves the right to cancel programs that are not full. In this case, a full refund will be granted.
