Workshop Instructor: Doug Pifer

PVMN Re-Cert Eligible

Doug Pifer, a professional writer, illustrator and wildlife artist for over 40 years, has teamed up with veterinarian, Belinda Burwell from the Wildlife Veterinary Care in Millwood to offer this unique workshop.

Doug will introduce participants to drawing directly from life, using a live raptor as a model.

After a brief introduction to comparative anatomy and a demonstration of how wings work, Belinda Burwell will join the workshop with a live hawk or owl as a model.

Participants will be encouraged to observe the model closely and familiarize themselves with its anomy and behavior. Then using basic drawing materials they will be able to record their own impressions using the 'minds eye'.

Emphasis will be on observing and focusing on the subject. Participants may bring a journal or sketchbook, a pencil and lots of enthusiasm! Artistic ability will be encouraged but not required!

This workshop is being held at Cool Spring Preserve in the upstairs classroom.

Doug has taught basic art classes to children, adults, homeschool students and seniors for many years.

Registration for this workshop is required.
