Join us for a day of maintenance day at Yankauer Nature Preserve! We'll work together to eradicate Autumn Olive, a troublesome invasive shrub that is dominating the understory of Yankauer. The work will include using pruners, chainsaws and herbicide to control Autumn Olive. Volunteers who prefer to help with other tasks can clear the hiking trails and cut invasive Japanese honeysuckle vines that are strangling native trees.

Yankauer Nature Preserve protects native habitat for local flora and fauna, and is a favorite local area for hiking and birdwatching in Berkeley County. Maintenance work and invasive species removal is necessary to promote high quality native habitat at Yankauer Nature Preserve.  Your help is appreciated as we work together to clear invasive species and enhance habitat for local wildlife. Every pair of hands helps make a difference!

All necessary training, tools, gloves and protective gear will be provided. If you have a chainsaw and would like to participate, your saw and strength are greatly appreciated! Light refreshments will also be available. Yankauer Nature Preserve has bathrooms and water will be available to refill water bottles.

*Master Naturalists who participate will earn volunteer hours for their re-certification.
