Trip Leader: Deb Hale

Join Deb Hale as she welcomes winter with a Winter Solstice Bird Walk in Harpers Ferry.

The walk will take place at the Maryland Heights Overlook trail, Harpers Ferry. Participants should park and meet at Deb Hale's house at 9:00 am and carpool to the hiking location. The meeting place address is provided in a registration confirmation email.

Registration is strongly encouraged, however there is no fee and anyone with an interest is welcome to come along, regardless of their birding skills. Children will be welcome.

The walk, lasting about 3 hours, will involve birding along a strenuous hiking trail.

Species likely to be sighted include woodpeckers, wrens, sparrows, waterfowl on the Potomac, and raptors, besides the usual suspect.

Participants should bring water and dress appropriately for the prevailing weather conditions, expecting it to be chilly. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

The trip will be canceled in the case of severe weather.

The Society will provide binoculars for those who do not have their own.

For those that are able, Deb has extended a gracious invitation to a light lunch at her house following the walk. Please feel free to join her as she takes a step back from the busy holiday season to enjoy time with fellow birders and friends.
