When:  Saturday, April 21, 2018

Time: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

PVAS Leaders: Mary Duke and Kathryn Henry

PVMN Re-Cert Eligible

Join Mary Duke wildflower and nature lover and Kathryn Henry, local certified Master Naturalist, on a Spring Wildflower and Nature Walk on the Ferry Hill Ridge Trail.

This Wildflower and Nature Walk, which is held to coincide with the peak of the spring wildflower season, will offer something for everyone; advanced and beginner/families alike.

This event is free and everyone is welcome, however pre-registration is requested.

Please meet the trip leaders at the large parking lot on Canal Road across the river from Shepherdstown. The group will then walk 1/4 mile on the C&O Canal towards the bridge. If you are concerned about the distance, please feel free to park in the smaller parking lot (Lock No 38 at the bottom of the hill) and meet the group under the bridge on the Canal.

During April, a wide variety of wildflowers should still be on display, including lots of trillium, trout lilies, shooting star, bluebells, to name a few.

The group will make their way to a huge rock further out on that trail that has walking fern, columbine, hepatica, sedums & other ferns on it.

The Ferry Hill Trail is a little steep, but zig-zags back and forth to the top of the ridge so wear sturdy walking shoes and bring along a trekking pole or hiking stick if you like. Please make note that we are labeling this walk as 'moderate' difficulty due to the semi-steep trail. There will be the option of a longer loop across the ridge & back to the canal for those that want a longer trek.

Dress for the weather and bring along drinking water.
