Matt will begin his Natural History Workshop on Wednesday July 30 at the National Conservation Training Center at 7:00 PM.  This two hour classroom session will be the first in a two-part series on the study of Shorebirds. Matt will discuss the finer points for some of the tougher shorebird identifications along with the 'expected' birds to be found in our immediate area and regions (20+ species).

The field trip portion of the workshop will begin on Friday August 1 with a trip to the Delaware Shore.

Those who wish to join the field trip should plan on meeting Matt and Sandy at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the lobby of the Microtel Inn & Suite Dover, which is located at 1703 East Lebanon Rd in Dover.  Breakfast opens at 6 a.m. and is included in the price of the room.  Participants can consolidate in cars to save on entry fees to the Refuge. Car pooling can be an option leaving Charles Town around noon on Friday if folks are interested in doing so.

Because accommodations fill up fast on the Eastern Shore in the summertime, those planning to join the trip should make their room reservations as soon as possible.

We will be staying at the Microtel Inn & Suites Dover Friday and Saturday nights. The phone number for the Microtel Inn & Suites is 302-674-3800. There are a number of other lodging opportunities in and around Dover.

Participants should plan to wear comfortable walking or hiking boots; bring along bug spray; and bring water and, as necessary, a hat, sunscreen or rain gear.

For more information contact Matt at 304-261-5602304-261-5602 / or Sandy at

Pre-registration is required.

*All but $50 of the registration fees will be refunded up to one week before the program begins. PVAS reserves the right to cancel the workshop due to unforeseen issues. In this case, a full refund will be given.
