Nature Explorer Backpacks

Child interacting with Nature Explorer Backpack        example of the Nature Explorer Backpack

Thanks to support from the Nora Roberts Foundation, there are now nineteen backpacks at seven local libraries in the Eastern Panhandle and nearby Maryland as well as the nature center at Cacapon State Park.  Backpacks can be found at the Martinsburg, Shepherdstown, Charles Town, Berkeley Springs, and South Jefferson WV,  Sharpsburg and Boonsboro MD libraries.

The packs provide families with all the tools they need to get their children outside exploring nature. Each pack contains a variety of books, field guides, supplies and activity ideas centered on different themes—currently, you'll find backyard habitats, insects, birds, reptiles and amphibians, and winter.

Additional themes will be developed over time as funding allows. Ask your local library which backpacks they have available, sign one out, and get outside and explore with your child! If you have suggestions for additional themes, please contact Kristin Alexander at 304-676-3397.
