What can be better than exploring the out-of-doors with your family?! Whether it is a formal hike or a pleasant bike ride on the C & O Canal, being outside together is a great way to spend a weekend or a vacation/holiday together.
Outdoor Explore PVAS's newest children's program for families is designed to help children explore nature throughout the year. Participants experience unstructured, but supervised, nature exploration and play in a variety of settings and habitats around the Eastern Panhandle. PVAS has an adult leader on each outing.
Each activity is appropriate to the time of year and habitat of the specific location. Programs are held in a different place, such as the C&O Canal, Yankauer Nature Preserve, Shannondale Springs, Eidolon Nature Preserve, or Flowing Springs Park. Families are encouraged to return at a later date to do more exploring on their own.
The program was first funded through a grant by the WV Division of Natural Resources. It proved to be so popular, that it has continued. New family events are posted on the Events Calendar so check back often for updates!
Preregistration is required and registrations are sometimes limited. Cost is $5 per child per session. For questions or more information about each event, contact Ellen Murphy (Ellen@PotomacAudubon.org)
