Bird Walk at Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve

Saturday, May 23 @ 7:30 am - 10:30 am

Join Alex and Kevin for a morning bird walk!

PVAS Host: Alex Tsiatsos, Kevin ODonnell

This is a free/donation-based program. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 10 participants.

Anyone with an interest is welcome to come along, regardless of their birding skills! Join PVAS for a bird walk at Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve in Back Creek Valley, west of 81. This 46-acre PVAS nature preserve features a wetland restored through the USDA’s Wetland Reserve Program and is a paradise for migrating and nesting waterfowl. The property features easy, mowed trails with interpretive signs, two overlooks for waterfowl viewing, and even a pollinator meadow. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy spring migration and add to the bird list for this special place! Click here to see a list of birds seen in May! (Some places may not have an eBird list for that month, so that is a great opportunity for you to add the birds you see at this bird walk!)!

  • Walking Distance: 1-1.5 miles
  • Pace/Activities: Leisurely (meandering, many breaks to stop and observe)
  • Exposure: Partial shade. Some areas of full sun.
  • Terrain: Mowed grass/earthen trail Mostly flat, some gentle slopes
  • Restroom: No restrooms are available.
  • Parking/Where to Meet: The group will assemble by the parking lot.

About Alex: Alex loved birds as a young child, imagining that every poorly-seen Pileated Woodpecker was really an Ivory-billed waiting to be rediscovered.  He has advanced from mistaking woodpeckers, to mistaking scaups, immature gulls and confusing fall warblers.  But he believes that there is no substitute for getting out there and seeing as many birds as you can.  He and his family are avid PVAS supporters.
