Basic Nature Photography

Join Master Naturalist Bob Thompson for an introduction to nature photography!
PVAS Host: Bob Thompson
$10/person (PVAS members receive a 10% discount). For ages 16 and older. All youth must be accompanied by an adult. This program is limited to 20 participants. This program has a minimum of 3 participants.

Join us for a fun and engaging class where participants will learn and practice the basics of nature photography. This is the same popular session Bob has presented to Master Naturalists-in-training. All types of cameras are welcome—cell phones, point-and-shoot, or DSLR—and a limited number of DSLR cameras will be available to borrow.
- Walking Distance: >1 mile at your discretion.
- Pace/Activities: Self-paced
- Exposure: Mostly open, some canopy cover
- Terrain: Hard ground/hiking trail in some areas, mowed grass in other areas. Gentle slopes/rolling hills
- Restroom: Indoor, flushing restrooms are available in the Case Nature Center during the indoor portion of the program. Otherwise, participants may use the port-o-pots in the parking lot.
- Parking/Where to Meet: Meet inside the Case Nature Center.
- What to Bring: A camera you wish to use. Cell phone, point-and-shoot, and DSLR cameras are acceptable. No film cameras please, as we will be sharing our photos in class.
Registration will remain open until the start of the program.
If the required minimum # of people do not register by 4 pm the evening prior, the program will be cancelled.

About our Host: Bob is a certified Master Naturalist, and was a member of the 2023 cohort. He is an Eagle Scout and US Army veteran, with many years of experience in the outdoors. He gets too excited about birds and enjoys nature photography, and can be seen often walking in and around Cool Spring Preserve.
