Join Mary Duke, Wanda Miller and Kathy Bilton, for a spring ephemeral wildflower walk at the Ferry Hill Ridge Trail and along the C&O Canal.
Participants will meet at the Ferry Hill Mansion parking area at the top of the hill just over the bridge across from Shepherdstown at 10:00am. Directions and more information about Ferry Hill Plantation can be found here: https://www.canaltrust.org/pyv/ferry-hill-plantation/
This Wildflower Walk, which is held to coincide with the peak of the early spring wildflower season, will offer something for everyone; advanced and beginner/families alike. During April, a wide variety of wildflowers will be on display, including bloodroot, spring beauties, Dutchman’s breeches, rue anemone, twinleaf, cut-leaf toothwort and trout lily.
We will be breaking the participants up into smaller groups for the walk in order to ensure adequate physical distancing.
While the C&O Canal tends to be fairly even, the trails around Ferry Hill are primitive, so wear sturdy walking shoes. Children are welcome with adult accompaniment. Please leave pets at home. And thank you for leaving the wildflowers for all to enjoy!
