Fascinating Fireflies at Stauffer’s Marsh

Join Master Naturalist Allen Miller for an evening walk to observe, enjoy, and learn about fireflies!

PVAS Host: Allen Miller

This is a free/donation-based program. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants.

Celebrate the magic of ‘firefly season’ with an evening firefly walk at Stauffer’s Marsh with Master Naturalist Allen Miller. Stroll along the trails of the preserve searching for and learning about all the various fireflies we see in this area.

The group will assemble near the parking lot of Stauffer’s Marsh and from there, the group will stroll off into the preserve in search of these magical creatures.

  • Walking Distance: 1 mile or less
  • Pace/Activities: Leisurely (meandering, many breaks to stop and observe)
  • Exposure: Partial shade. Some areas of full sun.
  • Terrain: Mostly mowed grass. The route is generally flat.
  • Restroom: No restrooms are available.
  • Parking/Where to Meet: The group will assemble near the parking lot.
  • What to Bring: Dress for the weather and bring water. We recommend that you wear long pants and closed-toed shoes (boots if you have them!).

About our Host: Allen Miller was a teacher for 35 years where he spent a large chunk of that time teaching science. Allen is a Morgan County WV residence and currently, a seasonal naturalist at Cacapon Resort State Park. He is a Master Naturalist member in the 2021 cohort.
