Peter’s Porch Dedication at Eidolon Nature Preserve

Please join us on November 7th, 1-3pm, when PVAS and partners will be dedicating “Peter’s Porch” at Eidolon Preserve in memory of past PVAS Board Member, Peter Smith, who passed away January 3, 2026.
PVAS Host: Kristin Alexander
Free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is not required.
One of many projects Peter took on during his Presidency was bringing public access of the Eidolon Nature Preserve to fruition, nearly fifteen years ago. Peter spearheaded the management agreement with The Nature Conservancy; secured funding for a parking lot for visitors and a roof for the cabin structure; interviewed local residents about their memories at Eidolon with the former owners, the Zapleons; and recruited local volunteers to help re-establish and maintain the trails.
We hope you’ll join us the afternoon of November 7. Because we are not requiring registration for this program, please check this link the day of the program before you head out in case there are any last-minute changes.
- 12:30 pm: Large parking lot will be open. Guests make their way up to the cabin either on foot or by shuttle. (The road to cabin is very rough and parking is limited.)

- 1:30 pm: Official dedication of “Peter’s Porch” including several rocking chairs in his memory provided by PVAS, TNC, and Friends of Music.
- 2 pm: Enjoy each other’s company, hike/explore on your own, or enjoy a guided hike around the property and back to the lower lot. Shuttle service will begin.
- 4 pm: Lower gate closed. (If you’d like to stay longer, please park in the normal public lot outside the gate.)
