Wellness Walk at Yankauer Nature Preserve

Thursday, April 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Let’s get outside and enjoy the trails together!

PVAS Host: Ellen Murphy

This is a free/donation-based program. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required and limited to 15 participants. This program has a minimum of 5 participants.

This April, join us for a Wellness Walk at Yankauer Nature Preserve the day after tax day. Spring is a great time to explore this varied landscape, from deep, shaded cedar groves to sunnier trails where wildflowers and birds are becoming more active. We may even spot some of the spring ephemeral wildflowers along some of the sunnier spots! We’ll also stroll out to the Potomac River overlook and take in the changing season together.

The 104-acre Yankauer Nature Preserve, located in Berkeley County just northwest of Shepherdstown, was once historic farmland and is now a forested preserve. This Wellness Walk invites you to enjoy movement, fresh air, and good company while experiencing one of the region’s special natural places, managed by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society.

  • Walking Distance: Approximately 2 miles or less.
  • Pace/Activities: Moderate (steady but able to maintain a conversation)
  • Exposure: Mostly shaded
  • Terrain: Hard ground/hiking trail. Gentle slopes/rolling hills
  • Restroom: There are 2 composting toilets at Yankauer near the meeting location.
  • Parking/Where to Meet: The group will assemble by the kiosk/sign near the composting toilets, a short walk from the parking lot.
  • What to Bring: Dress for the weather, bring water, and wear sturdy shoes!

Register Here!

Registration will remain open until the start of the program.

If the required minimum # of people do not register by 4 pm the evening prior, the program will be cancelled.
