Yankauer Nature Preserve Volunteer Workday
Join PVAS for a day of invasive plant removal at Yankauer Nature Preserve! We have some clippers but if you can bring any additional tools, it would be greatly appreciated! Please bring your work gloves, a refillable water bottle and any accessories that will help you stay comfortable (dress in layers!). Master Naturalists are eligible to earn volunteer hours! Camp Survivor: Session 1
Monday- Friday • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Could you survive if you were lost in the wilderness? We’ll have a blast building shelters, fires, and tools and learning how to purify water. We will also learn how to find food in the wild, use a compass, and tie knots. Through challenges that will test your mind, body and teamwork skills, you will truly know by the end of week if you have what it takes to be a SURVIVOR!…

Monday- Friday • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Release your inner wild child as you explore nature from a “wild” point of view. Walk barefoot through mud, splash in the creek, forage for wild foods, build the ultimate fort, and create camouflage so you can hide in plain sight! Monday- Friday • 9:00 am – 1:30 pm This session is designed for adventurous children who are ready to come to camp on their own without a parent. We will explore a variety of nature topics through hikes, nature crafts, hands-on nature exploration, stories, imaginative play and fort building. Optional after-care will be available from 1:30 pm - 3 pm. $8 per day. After-care runs from 1:30-3 p.m. and is intended to accommodate those families with campers attending Nature Explorers…

Nature Detectives: Session 2
Monday- Friday • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Join us as we uncover the mysteries of the forest. We’ll peek under logs, hunt for animal tracks and scat, dissect owl pellets, examine bones and skulls, and investigate the signs that animals leave behind. Monday- Friday • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm With Yankauer Nature Preserve as our home base, we’ll embark on a different adventure each day! Go caving, practice archery and survival skills and learn to orienteer so you can create your own compass scavenger hunt! Campers will need to be dropped off at the C&O parking lot under the Shepherdstown Bridge on Wednesday where we will be conducting a stream study. On Thursday night, we’ll camp out at the preserve!
