Birding at the Preserves:

Stop by anytime during the hours listed below and experience the thrills of birding. There will be options to bird in place, or to go on short walks throughout the preserves.
- Cool Spring Nature Preserve: Saturday, May 9 (rain date Sunday, May 10) 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Yankauer Nature Preserve: Saturday, May 16 (rain date Sunday, May 17) 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve: Saturday, May 23 (rain date Sunday, May 24) 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Big Day Competition:
Form a team (2-4 participants) and register to compete in the Big Day as either a Migration (mobile birding) or a Big Sit (bird in one location) team. Each team will choose one, 24-hour period between May 10 and May 23 and count as many bird species as possible within our four-county (Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan and Washington County, MD) service area. It is up to your team to evaluate the weather and pick the ideal birding day.
Be sure to REGISTER your team by May 1!
Submit your bird list (or ebird list) to our Adult Programs Coordinator, Krista Hawley by May 24th. The winning Migration and Big Sit teams will be announced during our annual picnic at Yankauer Nature Preserve on May 30. If you do not wish to compete or in addition to competing, you can also sponsor a Pro Team!
